New Brunswick Government reinstates funding to school libraries
At the APLA 2009 OGM Part 2 a resolution was adopted.
Whereas recent Canadian research has shown that having school libraries increased literacy scores for school aged children.
Whereas the New Brunswick government has gone on record saying it was their intention to focu on "improving students" understanding and performance in literacy.
Motion: Be it resolved that APLA write an open letter to the New Brunswick Minister of Education to urge him to restore adequate funding to school libraries to allow the proper staffing and operating budgets of school libraries.
I sent the Minister a letter in June opposing the cuts to school libraries and another in July congratulating the Minister regarding the decision to reinstate the funding to school libraries and I have attached them to this post.
