International Literacy Day and APLA Grows a Library in Mali / La Journée internationale de l’alphabétisation et APLA développe

In conjunction with International Literacy Day ( http://www.unesco.org/en/literacy/ ), September 8^th, APLA's Grow a Library Committee announces a new partnership with CODE, formerly known as the Canadian Organization for Development through Education, ( http://www.codecan.org ) to sponsor the Abdoulaye Maiga School and Community Library in Tabakoro, in the Sikasso Region of Mali.

With this project APLA builds on its relationship with CODE and fulfills a long held desire to partner with a francophone library. The Abdoulaye Maiga School and Community Library is located in Tabakoro, a rural community in Koumantou commune within the administrative circle of Bougouni (Sikasso region). The library is a partnership between five villages in the region, the Centre d’animation pédagogique (CAP or Pedagogical Support Center), the National Investment Agency of Territorial Authorities (ANICT) and ALED (CODE’s partner in Mali). The library was founded in 1994 and named after the late Abdoulye Maiga, former Director of the Centre d’animation pédagogique. The library provides services to the school, which has 667 students, and to the community.

CODE believes that “if you can read and write, you can learn to do, and be, anything.” Literacy and education have the power to change lives and schools and libraries can be places where that transformation is encouraged and enabled. You can help the Grow a Library Committee reach its goal of raising $2500.00 in support of the Abdoulaye Maiga School and Community Library by:

En partenariat avec la Journée internationale de l'alphabétisation (www.unesco.org/fr/literacy), le 8 septembre, le comité Grow a Library de APLA annonce un nouveau partenariat avec CODE, anciennement connu sous le nom, l’Organisation canadienne pour l’éducation au développement, (www.codecan.org/fr/code), pour parrainer l'Ecole Abdoulaye Maiga de Tabacoro, dans la région Sikasso au Mali.

Ce project fait fond sur le succès du partenariat entre APLA et CODE et répond à un souhait d’établir un partenariat avec une bibliothèque francohone. L'Ecole Abdoulaye Maiga est située à Tabacoro, une commune rurale de Koumantou dans le cercle de Bougouni (région de Sikasso). Il abrite la bibliothèque scolaire et communautaire portant le nom de feu Abdoulye Maiga, ancien Directeur du Centre d’Animation Pédagogique (CAP) de Koumantou. La bibliothèque est le fruit d’un partenariat entre cinq villages, le Centre d’animation pédagogique (CAP), l’Agence Nationale d’Investissement des Collectivités Territoriales (ANICT) et ALED, le partenaire de CODE au Mali. Créée en 1994, l’école de Tabacoro compte un effectif de 667 élèves.

CODE croit que "si vous savez lire et écrire, vous pouvez apprendre à tout faire. "L'alphabétisation et l'éducation ont le pouvoir de changer des vies : les écoles et les bibliothèques sont là où cette transformation est encouragée et aidée. Vous pouvez aider le comité Grow a Library à atteindre leur but de recueillir 2 500,00$ pour l’École Abdoulaye Maiga :
