Winner of the 2016 Margaret Williams Trust Fund Award

The Board of Trustees for the Margaret Williams Trust Fund Award have presented the 2016 award to Jane Hawco in the amount of $1,500. The award was established in 1984 to promote the development of librarianship in Newfoundland and Labrador. The annual award is in the memory of long-standing Memorial University Librarian, Margaret Williams.

Ms. Hawco holds a BA (Hons.) in Classics, 2014, from Memorial University, and is currently attending McGill University in Montreal, where she is completing a Masters in Library and Information Studies. " When I graduate from McGill University, I plan on exploring digital aspects of librarianship," said Ms. Hawco in her award application. "A large portion of my childhood was spent at the local public libraries in Newfoundland. I have experienced firsthand how important access to unlimited literature was for my personal development. I would really love the opportunity to further develop the online eBook and Audiobook database for the Newfoundland and Labrador public library system."

Funds are awarded on a competitive basis to applicants seeking funding for library-related projects or assistance in pursuing graduate studies in librarianship, archival studies, or teacher librarianship.
